Welcome to Rubondo Island National Park
Rubondo Island National Park is covered by lakeside papyrus, forests and grasslands.
The game viewing is done on foot accompanied by screeching flocks of African gray parrots, azure malachite kingfishers, paradise flycatchers with flowing tails, majestic African fish eagles, long legged storks, herons and egrets along with thousands of Eurasian migrants during the northern winter.
The indigenous mammal species, like hippo, vervet monkey, genet and the elusive sitatunga share their space with introduced species like chimpanzee, black-and-white colobus, elephant, giraffe and roan antelope.
Together with nine smaller islands, Rubondo Island National Park also protects precious fish breeding grounds.
